Middle Ages. However, the use of Hebrew speech in modern Israel is tending to
standardize the pronunciation of Hebrew.
The accompanying table indicates the transliterations accepted for Hebrew font by
most biblical scholars today. It is the standard system, developed by the
Journal of
Biblical Literature,
for use in writing and language instruction.
